Karen, love the way you have worked with the acrylics here, getting such good depth of interesting colour. Do you work wet in wet or do you build up dry layers?
Hi Sheila and Nora, Thanks very much for your comments. To answer your question: almost always I build up dry layers rather than wet in wet, but occasionally I'll mix some wet colors together loosely right on the painting.
Karen, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I've been checking your blog everyday and today I'm working on my third acrylic painting. After a lot of experimenting, dry layers is exactly what I finally felt led to do this afternoon. Now, I learn that your answer is the same and I'm saying "thank you, Lord". It's truly wonderful how God takes care of his children, teaching and guiding as we allow Him to direct our path. You are surely blessed, Karen, and many thanks again. . . . . Nora
Oh, Karen, I forgot to ask you if you are painting your works laying flat on a table or on your easel. Maybe you switch around with that too. Thanks, Nora
Hi Nora, I use an easel, except when I'm applying the final varnish, then I lay the painting flat on a table. Thanks for your comments and questions ... yes, I'm constantly amazed at the way God leads me when I "lean not on my own understanding" and "acknowledge Him in all my ways." :)

ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Karen. I have the same questions as Sheila Vaughan.

Oh, yes, and sometimes it's one big experiment ... I never know exactly how it will turn out!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen, it's a beautiful result with lots of impact.
